Host Will Kacy opens the new year with a framework for making sense of turbulent times: the Fourth Turning, the theory from authors William Strauss and Neil Howe that history moves in roughly eighty-to-hundred-year cycles, four turnings like four seasons. It is not a crystal ball, Kacy says, but a lens. He walks the cycle from the postwar high through the awakening and the unraveling to the present crisis, and argues that these are exactly the conditions in which an old order gives way and something like Texas independence becomes possible.
